Markus Karlsson

With a sharp competitive instinct and a broad skill set, Markus “Skogsmackan” Karlsson has shown that he belongs among the most promising riders of his generation. Strong results at junior level have given him a solid foundation of experience, race craft, and confidence.

Now entering his second season as an U23 rider, Markus does so with clear determination. After a season limited by injury, his focus is firmly forward - with the ambition to establish himself in the elite field and turn potential into performance.

Skogsmaskinen!
What’s the very first thing you do right after crossing the finish line?
I stop the bike computer, clip out, and grab something to drink.
Which trail or course lives rent free in your head?
Hjortgården Red in Alingsås. It’s really good.
If you could choose – which song would play at every start line?
Brooklyn Baby - Lana Del Rey
What do you always carry in your back pocket on long rides?
A gel and a tire plug.
What’s the most unexpected thing on your bucket list?
Getting the chance to ride in the US!
Coffee stop or ice cream break?
Ice cream break is the best!
Any pre-race rituals or superstitions?
I usually visualize the race beforehand and eat oatmeal in the morning. A gel 20 minutes before the start gives me some extra power.
Morning training or evening ride?
Morning training is my favorite.
What makes a “perfect day” on the bike for you?
A well-maintained fast trail, strong legs, and a few solid intervals on top of that.
One fun fact about you that has nothing to do with cycling?

As a kid, I used to collect sticks and store them under the stairs. It was a pretty impressive collection.
