New year means new challenges for the young talented mountain bike cyclist Tilda Hylén from Falun.

Tilda dresses in black and white with the aim of developing as a cyclist and making her mark in the international starting fields.

Tilda, born in 2004 and residing in Falun, has achievements such as a 12th place in the Junior World Championships, a top 10 placement in the Junior World Cup, as well as three consecutive Junior Swedish National Championship golds and two Senior silvers in XCO/XCC.

In addition to that, she has proven herself to be strong on longer distances including a victory in Engelbrektsturen 2023 and double sprint prizes and a top-ten placement in Cykelvasan, not to mention a bronze medal in the Swedish National Championships in XCM. An all-around strong cyclist with plenty of grit

Tilda participated in her first cycling race at the age of 4 and cycling has always been a natural part of her life. Both her parents were trainers in the local cycling club. The interest in the sport was shared with a lot of other sports over the years, such as cross-country skiing, athletics, gymnastics and orienteering, but it was already around the age of 11 that Tilda realized that it was in cycling she wanted to excel!

At the end of February, she kicks off her season in Greece - Salamina Epic MTB Races. Four tough races against strong competition, with hopes of collecting UCI points for the rest of the season. We catch up with Tilda and check in with her before the start of the season!

'Winter training has gone well and according to plan, I have found a good mix between distance sessions, gym workouts, indoor interval training, and cross-country skiing. It will be exciting to see how the body responds now!' says Tilda, explaining how the training hasn't really changed much ahead of the races in Greece.

'They are so early in the year meaning that winter training and building a solid base is still the main focus!' Tilda adds.

Tilda moved up from Junior to Elite class in 2023, which meant longer race times and tougher competition. It has given her both experience and lessons that she will carry into 2024. 'This year, I will have a bigger international focus with the goal of further developing as a cyclist and getting accustomed to larger starting fields, tougher tracks, and harder competition than at home,' she says.

In addition to achieving the desired results internationally, one of Tilda's absolute biggest goals is the Swedish Championships in Alingsås, where she, as previously mentioned, won double Senior silvers last year. She also looks forward to the World Cup in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic, as it is a track she likes, which is understandable since she achieved her first top ten in the Junior World Cup there in 2022.

”I had a really good start that year and managed to maintain that great feeling throughout the entire race," Tilda remembers fondly.

When she steps out of her local cycling club and into Team Serneke Allebike in 2024, she emphasizes the importance of being able to learn from each other as a team.

”Becoming a part of the team will further help me develop as a cyclist thanks to being surrounded by amazing people with a wealth of experience. Most members of the team are older than me and have a lot of experience, which I believe I can definitely learn from!" concludes Tilda.

We thank Tilda for the conversation and wish her the best of luck in the upcoming race season!
