The season has only just begun - but Linnea Nilsson has already claimed the top step of the Junior World Series podium. In Banyoles, Spain, she secured what may have been the most convincing victory of her career so far, against a fiercely competitive international field.

The weekend before, the Nilsson sisters lined up at Internacionales XCO Chelva for the season opener. A technically demanding course with rough terrain, fast descents and relentless climbs offered an early snapshot of their form. Elinore delivered one of her strongest international performances to date and powered her way to second place, while Linnea finished fourth - two top results that set the tone right away.

One week later, a different kind of challenge awaited in Banyoles. Less technical, but with more long, decisive climbs. The opening gravel ascent was followed by steep sections and tight turns in dry, high-speed conditions. A course where endurance and the ability to keep the pressure on over time became crucial - and one that suited Linnea perfectly.

Linnea didn’t get the perfect start, but she stayed composed. On the first long climb, she began methodically working her way through the field. Once in contact with the front group, she shifted from patience to control, taking charge of the pace. There was no single explosive move that decided the race - instead, it was a sustained high tempo and quiet determination that gradually wore her rivals down.

When the gap opened on the climb during the second lap, it was the result of exactly that - control rather than chance. From there, it came down to discipline, patience and trusting her race plan all the way to the line. After just under an hour of all-out racing, Linnea crossed the finish line solo, 25 seconds ahead of second place.

For Elinore, Banyoles proved more eventful. An incident off the start cost her valuable positions, turning much of the race into a fight back through the field. Even though the feeling wasn’t quite the same as in Chelva, she regrouped and worked her way up to seventh place - a solid performance in a highly competitive international lineup.

Another focused training block now awaits the girls before the Swedish season kicks off in Alingsås on April 11-12.

Get out there.
