Six days of cycling joy when the grueling stage race Andalucia Bike Race took place in the Spanish mountains.
Over 338 km of cycling and 9990 meters of elevation gain were to be covered over the course of 6 stages in the rocky Andalusian terrain. The race is run in teams and we had Lejla Njemcevic paired with Terese Andersson at the starting line. Lejla, who placed second in the overall standings in 2023, and Terese who was making her debut in the competition.
The competition begins with a rainy, somewhat shorter stage starting and finishing in Bedmar. It continues with a longer stage of just over 64 km and 2,227 meters of climbing in Jaén, where Terese and Lejla cruise to a second-place finish and land in second place overall as day three begins.
The following day, the sharp stones take their toll, and Terese suffers a difficult-to-repair puncture, losing a considerable amount of time in the overall standings. However, the upcoming long and hilly stages suit the girls well, and they immediately begin to make up part of the time they lost.
As the last day approaches, they have once again climbed their way up to fourth place in the overall standings, a position they manage to hold all the way to the end! As a result of their performance, Lejla was once again ranked number one in the world ranking for XCM.
